Central mountains divide peninsular Malaysia (Malaya), separating the narrow eastern coast from the fertile western plains, with its sheltered beaches and bays. Sarawak and Sabah share the island of Borneo with Indonesia and Brunei, where swamps rise to jungle-covered mountains.

Malaysia is well-gifted with natural resources in areas like agriculture, minerals, and forestry. When it comes to agriculture, Malaysia is one of the lead exporters of palm oil and natural rubber, which together with sawn timber, sawn logs, pepper, cocoa, and pineapple rule the growth of the sector. Palm oil also generates foreign exchange.

Malays make up half the population, and almost all Malays are Muslims. Ethnic Chinese constitute a quarter of Malaysia's people, and Indians about 7 percent—both groups are concentrated on the peninsula's west coast.

The country of Malaysia has a very tropical climate due to its location. Annual monsoons are also evident in Malaysia.
